Practical recommendations for things that are actually worth packing.
Things To Take On Holiday was created to help people make better decisions about what deserves space in their luggage.
There are thousands of travel products, packing lists and “must-have” recommendations online. A lot of them are useful. A lot of them are not.
Our aim is to separate the genuinely useful from the unnecessary.
We like practical recommendations.
That means asking questions such as:
Will we actually use this on holiday?
Does it solve a real problem?
Is it worth the space and weight?
Would we take it again?
Is there a simpler alternative?
Sometimes the answer is yes.
Sometimes the answer is that a popular travel product probably isn’t necessary at all.
Both answers are useful.
Some of the products and games on this site are things we’ve personally owned, packed and used while travelling.
When a guide is marked TESTED BY US, we can talk directly about our own experience:
how easy it was to pack
whether it worked in the situation we expected
what we liked
what we didn’t
and whether we’d take it again
Our Travel Games section is a good example. These are games we actually own and have played ourselves.
We don’t pretend to have personally tested everything.
When a page is marked RESEARCHED GUIDE, the recommendation is based on research rather than firsthand use.
That can include:
product specifications
independent product testing
manufacturer information
airline or regulatory guidance
customer feedback
practical travel considerations
comparisons with alternative products
Where we haven’t used something ourselves, we say so.
We don’t choose products simply because they are popular on Amazon or because they offer a high commission.
The main question is always:
Is this genuinely worth the space in your luggage?
That means we may recommend a cheaper option, a simpler product, or sometimes suggest not buying the product at all.
We also try to distinguish between:
products that solve a genuine travel problem
products that are useful only in certain situations
products that look clever online but probably won’t earn their place in your bag
Some pages may contain affiliate links.
If you follow one of those links and make a purchase, we may receive a small commission at no extra cost to you.
Affiliate relationships do not change whether we describe something as useful, unnecessary or poor value.
You can read more on our Affiliate Disclosure page.
Whether we’ve tested something ourselves or researched it carefully, we keep coming back to the same question:
Would this make the holiday easier enough to justify packing it?
That is what Things To Take On Holiday is here to help you decide.
