Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza

Tiny, simple and chaotic. It's one of those games that can generate a surprising amount of laughter from little more than a deck of cards.

Our experience

Is Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza worth taking on holiday?

Yes. This is exactly the sort of game that's easy to throw into a suitcase without having to think about whether it's worth the space.

The box is only around 8.5 × 12 cm and weighs 215 g, and the game itself is essentially just a deck of cards.

For something so small and simple, it can create an impressive amount of noise, laughter and chaos.

It's not a game we'd plan an entire evening around, but for 10–20 minutes of easy family entertainment, it's excellent.

What's it like to play?

This is not a game that requires much serious thought.

It's fast, silly and relies heavily on players paying attention and reacting quickly. That's a big part of its appeal.

For us, it occupies a similar holiday role to Dobble. You can explain it quickly, get it onto the table almost immediately and have adults and children laughing together within a few minutes.

Sometimes that's exactly what we want from a holiday game.

Is it good with children?

Very much so.

We rate the complexity at just 1/5, and there's very little barrier to getting started.

The chaotic nature of the game also means children aren't simply sitting through an adult board game that's been made slightly easier for them. The silliness is a fundamental part of the experience for everyone.

It's particularly good when we're looking for something light-hearted rather than strategic.

Is it good for short sessions?

That's where we'd use it.

Around 10–20 minutes feels ideal. We'd play a few rounds, have a laugh and then probably move on to something else.

If we wanted something to occupy us for a couple of hours, we'd choose The Crew or another more substantial game.

But that isn't a weakness. Having a few genuinely good short games available is extremely useful on holiday.

How easy is it to pack?

Extremely easy.

At approximately 8.5 × 12 cm, it's one of the smallest boxed games we'd consider taking away.

There isn't a board or a collection of bulky components to worry about either. You're essentially making room for a small deck of cards.

For the amount of entertainment it can generate, that's a very good trade-off.

What about planes and playing outdoors?

This isn't a game we'd specifically choose for either situation without testing it properly first.

The game involves fast reactions and physical interaction with the central cards, so an aircraft tray might be more awkward than it is for a conventional card game.

Likewise, because the game is entirely card based, we'd expect wind to matter outdoors.

We'd rather be clear about that than give either category a definite rating based purely on assumption.

Taco Cat or Dobble?

They fill a similar role in our suitcase, but they're not the same experience.

Dobble is probably the more universally accessible of the two and individual games can be incredibly quick.

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza brings more chaos.

If the aim is to get a family laughing and nobody is looking for anything remotely serious, Taco Cat is difficult to beat.

Realistically, they're both small enough that we'd be quite happy taking both.

Our verdict

Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza is a great little holiday game when you want maximum silliness from minimum luggage space.

It's tiny, extremely simple and works particularly well as a quick family game.

We wouldn't take it expecting hours of strategic entertainment, and that's completely fine. Its job is to come out for 10–20 minutes and create some chaos.

At only 8.5 × 12 cm, it's very easy to justify finding room for it.
